A Message From SIHC President On Recent Threat To Synagogues In New Jersey

Updated: Nov 15, 2022

Dear Friends,

Late last week, many Jewish leaders across New York City joined New York City Mayor Eric Adams and NYPD Commissioner Keechant Sewell on a Zoom call concerning the recent FBI alert of a serious and credible threat to synagogues in New Jersey.

Mayor Adams and Commissioner informed us all that the threat was specific to New Jersey and most importantly, thank G-d, the specific threat has been eliminated. Out of abundance of caution you will see a much larger police presence around all NYC Jewish institutions following this news.

In the Torah we read and learn how G-d tells Abraham our patriarch, "I will bless those who bless you, and the one who curses you I will curse."

Our greatest response to antisemitic threats is to show up en masse as a community. This is how we proclaim that the Jewish community is not afraid and will not be deterred in staying safe from Staten Island, across New York, New Jersey, and around the world.

As King David taught us in Psalm 121 הִנֵּ֚ה לֹ֣א יָ֖נוּם וְלֹ֣א יִישָׁ֑ן שׁ֜וֹמֵ֗ר יִשְׂרָאֵֽל - Behold the Guardian of Israel will neither slumber nor sleep...ה יִשְׁמָר־צֵֽאתְךָ֥ וּבוֹאֶ֑ךָ מֵֽ֜עַתָּ֗ה וְעַד־עוֹלָֽם - The Lord will guard your going out and your coming in from now and to eternity.

We want to thank the FBI, Mayor Adams and the NYPD for their dedication and protection for our Jewish communities in New York and New Jersey.

Sincerely,

Rachel Borenstein
